Will EVDO Knock Satellite Internet Out of the Park?

2007 will be the year that Cell phone providers like Sprint, Alltel and Verizon push strong into Suburban and close-in Rural territory staked out by Satellite Internet operators and attempt to take market share away. Will they succeed?

When EVDO Revision A (and soon thereafter Rev B) comes out in Q3 2007, there will be a full blown skirmish between Cell operators and the Satellite Internet industry for available consumer and business internet accounts. The territories they are trying to claim are the areas where concentration of homes and business is great enough to build out advanced cell service, but not great enough for terrestrial providers like cable and dsl. These suburban and rural areas have historically been the territory for Satellite operators and some adventuresome WiFi businesses.

Current Status:

With the current levels of cell service available (EVDO rev.0), cell operators are taking a fair amount of business away from satellite operators in fringe suburban areas....why?.... younger users who want to stream video, trade music and video, play internet games and not have any limitations on usage. So far, the cell operators are filling the bill for about $50 or so for the "Aircard" and charging about $59 per mo. for high speed internet....well, sort of.

The speeds on most EVDO plans are about 400-800 kbps download and around 200 kbps upload. Much higher speeds are promised when Revisions A and B come in to play later this year and beyond. Latency is around 200-350 ms - 50% lower or more than a satellite connection. This latency allows gaming without too many bumps along the way. For those who have been experiencing oppressive limitations from the satellite operators, it seems like heaven....but for how long?

Some of the providers already have a limit of usage each month and it's pretty restrictive (as low as 4GB per month - lower than the satellite operators are assessing). There is no decent data to report on what happens when the network begins to "load up" with users. I was in Denver's airport during a recent snow storm and the EVDO service was non-existent until you were several miles from the airport.....so it's not perfect, by any means. I personally believe that the cell operators are going to learn the same lessons that satellite internet operators have learned........bandwidth is expensive! You can lure people in with attractive prices and speeds, but when you can't maintain those speeds as the network loads up, you just become another one of those lying, cheating, false advertising no good internet providers that we have too many of already! Just kidding........it's not easy to balance a high speed internet network in this day and time.

Future:

When cell operators build out and offer Rev B. EVDO high speed internet service (about 2 years out), the landscape for service will be incredibly competitive. City, suburban and rural individuals and companies will have a lot of choices and the providers with foresight and innovation will be the one's to survive. It should be good for the consumer!

Satellite Technology Implemented By HughesNet Is The Perfect Medium For Internet Access

While there are plenty of Internet service providers out there who offer high connection speeds or cover large geographic areas, only HughesNet can combine the two to provide high speed Internet access anywhere in the United States. This may seem like a pretty big boast. After all, if you've done any shopping around at all, you probably know that high speed Internet via broadband cable is only available in areas that have digital cable networks in place, and DSL service is only nominally considered high speed Internet and even its coverage is spotty at best. So you might wonder how HughesNet can possibly be that much better than other Internet service providers. The answer is that it relies on superior technology to provide superior service.

That technology is satellite technology. Satellite technology implemented by HughesNet is the perfect medium for Internet access for a number of reasons. First, it supports the transmission of huge amounts of data in very short periods of time. The huge bandwidth of satellite technology allows HughesNet to offer download speeds of up to two megabytes per second for business clients or one and a half megabytes per second for residential users. That can be eight times the speed of DSL connections and twenty times the speed of the typical dial up connection! That also means that with a satellite Internet connection, you'll be able to upload and download massive files with ease. You can quickly and easily post all of your favorite digital pictures on the web and even post home videos for all of your friends to see. You can also use the Internet for a source of entertainment by downloading your favorite TV shows and movies to watch on your home computer or on your TV set if you have the right hardware for that.

The second major advantage of using HughesNet satellite technology to connect to the Internet is that with satellite technology, it doesn't matter where you live or have your small business. As long as you live in a place that's reached by the satellite signals- which is pretty much the entire continental United States- you can get high speed Internet service via satellite. This really opens up the possibilities for writers, artists, small business owners, or anyone who telecommutes. Thanks to HughesNet people who need high speed Internet connections for their professions no longer have to live within the service areas of providers of DSL or broadband cable.

In addition to the benefits of having high speed Internet service anywhere in the country, HughesNet customers also enjoy a number of other benefits. For example, their Internet connections can be up and running in less than two weeks with the help of a professional HughesNet satellite installer; who will install the dish, run cables, install your modem, and make sure that everything is functioning properly so that you can get online as soon as the process is complete. Once you're hooked up and ready to go with HughesNet's service, you'll be able to take advantage of complimentary email addresses and tech support. The email addresses come with sophisticated virus and Spam filtering and the tech support is available whenever you need it no matter what time of day it is. You'll also have the option of purchasing extra features like domain based email, web hosting services, extending service plans, and state of the art security software. In all, HughesNet does a great job of offering a superior product and then going above and beyond to provide its clients with the best experience of surfing the Internet possible.

J. Hall writes articles for consumers who want to find the best HughesNet offers currently available. She has written for many major publications about the latest satellite Internet deals and how buyers can find the best discounts.

Broadband Satellite Internet

Broadband satellite Internet has provided hope for rural subscribers who are outside the coverage areas of most Internet service providers. Most home subscribers opt for cable and DSL Internet connections. But in areas which are not under the range of the high-speed broadband connection, or where dial-up access is extremely slow, satellite broadband Internet is a boon. The technology has been there for a long time, but it has evolved in more recent times.

The connection does not use wire, but requires an intermediary satellite. Requests are logged through a home computer and a special satellite modem to a satellite dish, which is installed on the roof of the subscriber?s office or house. These signals are sent or received from the dish satellite to an orbiting satellite, which in turn sends or transmits information to the dish satellite at the service provider?s office. The connection speed is a little less in comparison to DSL and cable Internet connections. This can be a drawback while using certain applications, such as real-time interactive games.

However, does not affect web surfing and sighting. A lot of these shortcomings can be overcome by using a signal amplifier, to cater to external or climatic disturbance and signal locators, to catch signals faster. Some other problems associated with satellite broadband Internet connections are that the installation charge for the dish satellite and the monthly subscription charges are a bit expensive, in comparison to DSL and cable connections.

The satellite dish being installed outside on the roof is liable to damage due to climatic conditions like rain and high-intensity wind. The expenses required for setting up the right kind of infrastructure for the rural subscribers has been one more reason for the technological lag in this area. Despite all of these shortcomings it is the best option for those who are placed at a geographically disadvantaged condition, and the promise of a better future lies ahead.

Free Internet Television Software As Freedom From Satellite TV Bondage

Free satellite television software does that: It has freed me from the burden of monthly satellite TV subscription cost, and offers a wide range of viewing choices. Yes, thousands of TV channels and programs, including sports of all kinds from all over the world make up the package I presently use.

But there is an inherent danger if you just jump on the first Internet television software offer you come across. It happened to me. The very first “free Internet television software I downloaded did not perform to my satisfaction.

Most Vendors of free satellite TV software for watching satellite TV on your PC or Laptop make more claims than they can deliver. All that glitters are not gold. Ask of the experiences, advice or recommendation from your friends, colleagues or relatives who already use or know someone who has free satellite TV software for watching TV on PC before parting with your hard earned money.

• A quality Software for watching TV on PC or Laptop should come not very expensive.
• Hardware of any kind should not be part of the package
• Package should contain thousands of Satellite Channels and Programs from around the world, including sports of all kinds.
• Systems specifications should be from Pentium 2 and Windows 2000 up
• Package should include life time upgrade without further charges
• Package should include help center phone number and email address
• Terms should include your right to a refund if not satisfied.

Having said all that, note that you will enjoy your chosen free satellite TV on PC or Laptop software if you have broadband Internet connection. A PC or Laptop lower that Pentium 2 capacity may not be able to handle quality Internet television software.
